May. 07, 2007 Keen contest expected in tri-nation LG Windows Gaming Championship
WGC presented by LG.
Gaming enthusiasts in UAE, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia eye top honours. Building on the success of last year’s first Windows Gaming Championship, global and regional digital leader LG Electronics has teamed up once again with Windows Middle East magazine to support a GCC-wide contest for the rapidly increasing community of gaming buffs this summer.
The second edition of the tri-nation event will feature two-day competitions in Kuwait from May 10-11, in Riyadh from May 31 to June 1 and in Dubai from June 22 to 23. The championship is the first of its kind to be featured region-wide and is once again expected to draw hundreds of participants from the three countries.
In Kuwait, the competitions will be held at the Virgin Music Store, while Dubai’s uniquely designed Ibn Battuta Mall has been chosen as the venue for the UAE round.
“The inaugural edition of the Windows Gaming Championship last year was an immense success in the UAE and it is only natural to expand it to neighbouring countries which have a thriving gaming community,” explained Mr. C. H. Lee, President of LG Electronics Gulf FZE.
“LG Electronics has a diverse consumer audience and the most significant is the youth segment. The Windows Gaming Championships evokes the emotions and excitement that LG Electronics is built on and we are proud to be associated with it for the second year running,” he added. 2 / -

Commenting on the event, Matthew Wade, Group Editor of Windows Middle East, said: “Last year, we were overwhelmed by the response to our championship. We also discovered that Windows readers across the Middle East want representation in their own countries, so this time around we decided to heed their advice by taking the Windows Gaming Championship across the Gulf.”
Contestants can choose to enter the ‘three to five-member team’ category playing the ever-popular Counterstrike Source, or as an individual to play the Pro Evolution Soccer 6. Keen gamers can also register for both games. The UAE leg of the tournament will conclude with a regional ‘Final of Finals’, which will discover the best PC gamers in the Gulf, and the winner is entitled to a $6000 prize.
To participate, contestants can log on to www.itp.net/wgc and register. Entry is free and open to all.
